WRITING NEWS ROUNDUP– JUNE 2022

Back at it again with the Writing Roundup! It’s the height of Summer here and while my brain has turned to goop (and not in a fun way!) June was a productive month, with some plans for future projects cemented as well.

I read the BLOODBORNE comics, which are gorgeous, and HELPMEET by Naben Ruthnum–some incredible body horror and a strangely romantic (to me) novella. Will absolutely be returning to it in the future! Movies for June were a mixed bag of rewatches and first views, including the phenomenal RRR, JUNKHEAD and the short film THE DEMONS OF DOROTHY. It’s been a joy to watch things in a group–I tend to be a solitary person and forgot how fun riffing with friends can be. ❤

One of the first big essays I wrote after beginning my writing journey was adrift for over a year after the project was cancelled. It’s now been posted as part of a Pride Month celebration. POSSESSOR, Losing Control and Gender Identity is available to read on Divinations Hollow.

Lost-In-Cult’s [lock-on] 004 campaign launched–and smashed through the funding goal in record time! I have a piece diving into the history of character creation in video games in addition to my own experiences with it as a non-binary individual. It’s a gorgeous volume I’m ecstatic to be a part of. Pre-orders are open until early August.

For Neon Splatter, I took a look back at two underappreciated films: 2004’s INFECTION and Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s 2009 maximalist masterpiece, MICMACS. I admit I tend to write on very heavy, emotional subjects the vast majority of the time, unintentionally! So it was probably good for me to take a mental break and have fun, haha.
